Regulus stepped into the station and looked around the platform as he stepped aside. He had long ago learned never to stop in front of the wall because of others going back and forth, but he was not wishing to move fast. And stepping to the side allowed him to look ahead as the crowd grew to watch for observers and trouble. Not having to watch for Marauders for once made the day feel almost relaxing really, though he supposed Remus might show up. But he doubted he was worth it and the man had always been after Snape not himself. A nod almost to himself before he moved farther in not using a trolly, just caring his locker in one hand.
Thank goodness his parents considered this too common a thing to want to be at.
With a muggle drink in his pocket, Regulus walked slowly around the crowd avoiding the center not in a rush to board. He was a few minutes early, but he was watching the adults as they moved back and forth, circulating for other reasons then their children. Using his memory, he watched for possibly interesting conversations and saw a few Ministry people clearly taking a chance to discuss work stuff out of common ears. Wishing he was able to be closer without being seen, he had to sigh at the missed opportunity. Not his main job.
Still, he leaned against the wall and watched certain mouths, watching for words which might get him a plus on his next report or give other DE something to follow up on. Setting his trunk on one end (a terrible way to treat an old Chinese antique) he sat on it temporarily aware that patience might give him a bit of fruit others were not aware might be rather ripe.

Carrying the case was far easier then a trunk she had to admit thought her father still insisted on carrying it. She was a girl after all, not a boy and therefore delicate. She resisted making a face as she followed with her brother following. It was like she had to be escorted to be safe! They passed through the barrier and despite being early they took her over to the train doors, her brother taking her case inside and finding her a cabin. Her father waited and then ended up in conversation with someone as her brother wished her a great year with a hug before retreating.
Well now!
Aware that several eyes had followed her to the train, she was sure they belonged to 'proper' parents who just happened to have unmarried sons. Contracts. She was sure her father would get some rather large benefit from whoever won in the end, though she doubted she would be anywhere near as happy. This was her last year of some choice, of any form of freedom really and she really needed it! She looked around and saw through the window two Slytherins who had graduated last year staring at her from different parts of the crowd.
A slight chill ran up her spine so she reached over and closed the curtain half way and stayed behind it's edge. Opening her 'case' she scrabbled around up to the shoulder till she got the book by feel from the bedstead and brought it out to read in, moving her wand to her hand as she did so. She felt a need for a little 'security....'

Connor had borded the train, looking around.
Was it fuller than it had been the last year? Had there suddenly been an influx of children?
He thought on this a long moment, trying to add it up and shook his head. No way. So why did it feel like more people? The graduating class from last year hadn't been that huge, either. Who knew.
Either way, he was on the hunt for someone, his Dawn. Knowing she usually boarded early, he had actually gotten up early and hassled his parents to drop him off earlier than normal in previous years. It was the last year of course...
...and he would say something this year.
...hopefully.

Getting the book and retreating visibly from being stared at helped, though if a person walked right up beside the train they could still see in. That would be too obvious for most of her 'admirers' as her father would say, though she felt 'possessors' was closer to the correct term. Sitting in the corner with the case above her head she still felt tense and uncomfortable and probably would until they pulled u of the station.
And then she saw a familiar face at the window which she was partly facing.
Sitting up suddenly she started to wave then caught herself pulling her hand away from the curtain's protective cover and motioning him in with a frantic nodding! She mouthed "In here quick" twice before she thought he had it and she patted the seat beside her, glancing at the curtain and then standing to pull the curtain a little farther across. As long as she waved at her father when the train was getting started she'd be all right she was sure, though her brother might get sent in to check on her.
"Thank Merlin! Sit down sit down..." She laid her book on her lap as she sat back down, flashing him a welcoming smile. "My father is hanging around making sure I don't get off the train and there have been two former Slytherins out there giving me the eye. I feel all dirty now, but having you here will keep them from staring at me I think..." A very brief tiny sliver of thought that she might not want to make him a target of her brother, but that was gone in a moment remembering their eyes. She shivered.

Suddenly as if thinking of her made her appear, she appeared in front of him... well, okay, slightly to the side of him, out of a compartment and flagged him down.
He slipped into the compartment as she insisted; sitting down and placing his stuff next to him a brow raised.
Ah. Right. Pureblood things he didn't quite understand... or like, really. Forcing her to do things instead of giving her a choice. And then he was reminded of why he'd been so hesitant to say anything... he didn't want to cause her trouble. Or take her away from her family. But... wouldn't them marrying her off just push her away anyway?
Ugh. He just didn't understand anything at all, no matter how much he researched.
All he wanted was for her to be happy. But could that be with him? A muggleborn boy?
He gave her a rueful smile, "hopefully they just think you're as pretty as I do."

Dahlia and Connor had been friends since before schoo-- well okay, JUST before school but still it counted. She felt safe around him, mostly as he wasn't trying to get her into a contract or trick her into his bed. These were both things most girls appreciated, even as she had tried to push him about being more then friends a few times without actually saying it. She would have liked it, even her brothers would have been hanging around.
But with both of them graduated now maybe she could get him to wake up a bit more.
"Ah yeah, friendly with parts of me I'm sure! Those two weren't really waving to get my attention and I know where my eyes are." She rolled her eyes as she glanced back out the window, not seeing either of the graduated older boys, but afraid that her curtain closing might have been a give away they made her nervous or self aware. Some Slytherins rather liked fear in a girl's eyes. She frowned thinking of that and turned back to him.
"But thanks! I know you mean it, not like most guys. How was your summer? What did you do? Did you go anywhere?" She saw his hesitation and struck at his shoulder lightly, secretly jealous. "You did! You went somewhere! Where?" He'd better not be holding out just because she never got to travel at all.

He grimaced at her response and without thinking, reached out to grab her wrist. "Dawn, I'll protect you. You can count on that."
Determination was set in his eyes, at least until he realized what he was doing and pulled his hand away. Not quickly, just... slowly. His face darkened.
"My summer was good," at her insistence that he went somewhere, he shook his head. "I didn't! Really! I... you caught me while I was thinking of something. We didn't go anywhere. I swear."

Her friend was quick to catch her hand and offer protection. Her returned smile was one of trust and belief in him and his protection. "Thanks Dusk, I know I can depend on you in school. It's out of it at the end of the year I'm more worried about. Heck, even Christmas might not be safe much, but I still have to face that alone." A frown tugged at the corners of her lips, but she pushed it away for him. Squeezing his hand before letting go she added "I can always depend on you, you're awesome, you know that right?"
She missed the frown.
However she did as if he was concealing something. "Really? Nowhere?" She pouted slightly. "Well then why was it good? Did something else happen? I thought your family did things during the summer. How about the guys from your neighborhood? You told me they played games all summer long..."

His heart thumped in his chest.
He smiled, softly. "I do try to be, Dawn. There's not a lot for a muggleborn to be but awesome."
He chuckled at that, looking at the hand she just squeezed.
"Well, they do... but," he sighed, lightly. "I guess I've been lost in thought. It's our last summer as student, you know? I... haven't really decided on what to do... after."
And for a lot of things, he mused to himself, another sigh.

"Don't put yourself down, Connor," she admonished him "there is nothing wrong with that! Muggleborn is just a word, it doesn't really mean anything different. Some people just like putting on airs." She tossed her head at the idea, irritated with the world not him. It was so unfair that people had to let themselves be divided up! She personally was rather bothered how many people turn to their blood for their identity.
She did not have a normal perspective about the wizarding world.
His answer told her at once his worries. Her face suddenly creasing a bit in concern (and trying to hide her own reaction to him) she said "Oh! Oh that's right I had forgotten! What did you narrow it down to? I know you had several things you said you were considering? How many muggle and how many magical?" She of course had no easy options so she hoped he ignored that part...

He smiled at her and her reassurance. He really wished it didn't mean anything different. He forced himself not to sigh.
"Uhm, well. I supposed I narrowed it down to a few... like perhaps a muggle college? It's too bad there's not any higher education than Hogwarts for the magical world, huh?"
He scratched the back of his head. "Or maybe just get married and work some job at the ministry."
It sounded so mundane...
Well, the job at the ministry part, that is. The getting married, not so much. At least he had a canidate in mind for that -- no, he couldn't do that. Ugh. Stop with that train of thought, right now.

Not familiar with that which was not surprising she responded back "College? I've heard of it but how do you earn money there?" Hogwarts...with more education? She wasn't quite sure she could imagine that! "I think instead of it most go into internships or family businesses." Married? Her heart rate quickened slightly, but she dared not touch on that part of it without making him give her more attention!
And hardly was it safe a subject when her brother might return any moment!
"At the Ministry? Like, what part of it would you try for?" She thought back over the classes he liked and didn't and wondered at which he would actually attempt and came up blank.

He shook his head with a slight grin.
"Well, one would go to college to gain knowledge to be ablle to find a better job... to earn money."
He sighed. "But it takes money to go to college, though my parents already have that saved up."
He shrugged. The option sounded good to him honestly. Better job, more money, better able to provide for a wife...
Oh, there he was again, especially looking at her.
His face darkened.
"Well, I do like adventure, so there might be something for me in curse breaking -- though that might be more under Gringotts; but there's always Aurors... but that's a lot of dangerous work."

Ah so he was thinking about making muggle money! Well she knew little about the kind of work that might bring in. "Oh well that makes sense. Do you have to pay anything? What kind of jobs would that get you?" She really knew nothing except very generally about muggle things except how to get by among them which she had never really done. He explained his parents already had the money. "Great! Sounds like you are set then! So are those jobs better then the ones we have in the wizarding world?"
A nod. "My family let me work this summer in Owlet training and I really enjoyed it, but I think it requires a special touch. But they will never let me do the job anyway so it's sort of sad I'm good at it. They are just so cute..." She gave a cute sigh. A worried look. "Does-- I heard that involved a lot of treasure hunting. You would consider that? Are their any adventure jobs in the muggle world?"

Was she sizing him up, with all these questions?
...he could help but be hopeful.
"Well, other than what my parents have already saved up for the tuition, not really. Other than buying food for myself. Which is easy enough."
He gave a shrug. "As for the being better, I have really no frame of refrence yet, but if they allow one to make a living, either one would be great, right?"
He frowned that they wouldn't let her do the job and he bit his lip, fighting back what he really wanted to say. Later, perhaps. Let's not be hasty.
Hasty, right. You've bee fighting this since fourth year, idiot.
"Maybe not that exactly." He gave a wry grin. "But there is something like it in the muggle world... just not dealing with so many dangers. Travel journalist appealed to me, where I would travel and visit many places in the world."
And take you with me.. he added on, mentally.
